Sierra Simko and Joe Hunt had a lively visit with Wayne Highland School District Superintendent Greg Frigoletto and Agriculture Teacher Kayla Pohle at the Honesdale High School greenhouse--and had the opportunity to meet some students enrolled in the Agriculture Program created by Greg and Kayla. The ground-breaking four-year program covers the many facets of agriculture as a potential career track, with about 50 students enrolled in the 2023-2024 school year. Agriculture education had been dropped from the curriculum decades ago and Honesdale is the first in Wayne County to bring it back. JHA Companies was retained to design the greenhouse, with Registered Architect Sierra Simko leading the way.

Another insightful post from JHA's Daniel Fortak: 🛠️ Today, let's shine a spotlight on two remarkable Pennsylvania engineering marvels that have stood the test of time: the Safe Harbor Dam and the Pennsylvania Railroad electric traction system. 1️⃣ Safe Harbor Dam: Harnessing the Power of the Susquehanna 🌊 Constructed in the 1930s, the Safe Harbor Dam stands as a testament to visionary engineering. Located on the mighty Susquehanna River, this project played a pivotal role in harnessing the raw power of water to generate electricity, creating a lasting legacy of sustainable energy for generations to come. 2️⃣ Pennsylvania Railroad Electric Traction System: A Pioneer in Rail Electrification 🚆⚡ Built during the electrification boom of the early 20th century, the Pennsylvania Railroad's electric traction system revolutionized rail transportation. The system introduced electric locomotives powered by 25Hz electricity, paving the way for a more efficient, reliable, and environmentally friendly mode of train travel. 🔗 The Symbiotic Connection between the Dam and Railroad: The collaboration between the Safe Harbor Dam and the Pennsylvania Railroad electric traction system is a testament to the visionaries who saw the potential of combining nature's resources, specifically the raw power of the Susquehanna, with cutting-edge traction technology to create sustainable and efficient rail transport. This technology is now used by Amtrak for their Northeast and Keystone corridors. Their dedication and brilliance have not only shaped our present but are instrumental in building a more sustainable and connected future. #jhacompanies #EngineersWeek #EngineeringMarvels #Innovation #SafeHarborDam #RailElectrification #Sustainability #Amtrak #EngineeringMarvels #PennsylvaniaRailroad #SusquehannaRiver #WaterResources #manortwprailtrail #lancastercounty
